ONANCOCK CREEK TOUR EVERY SATURDAY AT 10 AM

(April through Labor Day)

All tours can be scheduled at your convenience

Historic Onancock Creek Tour: To truly understand this 1680 Colonial port, you
have to see it from the water. Launch from Onancock Wharf where schooners and
steamboats once moored, and pass into nature's wonderland. Two hours: $45 per
    person.

Schooner Bay Beach Adventure:  Launch onto Chesconessex Creek where Capt.
John Smith spent a stormy night in 1608. Meander through pristine saltmarsh
islands to land on a windswept beach within sight of Tangier Island. Perfect for a
picnic or a swim in warmer weather!

Paddle Your Glass Off! How could you possibly improve a
paddling trip on the scenic shores of the Chesapeake Bay? With
a stop at a waterfront winery for a tour and tasting of award-
    winning vintages.

Seaside Island Adventure: The Virginia Coast Reserve—19
barrier islands spread along 90 miles of undeveloped coast—has
been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here on the
Shore, it’s simply called “Seaside.” Water trails wind through salt
marsh to uninhabited barrier islands, vital nesting and feeding
grounds for millions of migrating shorebirds. This full day tour
includes a picnic lunch, beachcombing and swimming.

Access Saxis: A short drive north of Onancock sits a sleepy
town of working watermen and endless Chesapeake Bay
marshes. A few hours paddling this serene place will truly change
your state of mind. We can usually get an impromptu tour of a
crabbing shed, where hardshells ‘bust’ into the softshell delicacy.

Quinby: Immerse yourself in the natural wonders of the
incomparable Machipongo River between Quinby and historic
Willis Wharf. Our new waterfront Yak Shack is the perfect launch
for a trip through the Shore's beautiful and valuable seaside
    marshes.

Tour Prices: $45 for two-hour trips, $85 for half day and winery trips, $125 for full
day (includes lunch). Most tours can be customized to these three options. All gear
is included, along with a “paddle school” with ACA-certified kayak instructors. No
    experience necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve never kayaked before. Can anyone do it?

Tours are for all ages and abilities, no experience necessary, and include “paddle school” by an ACA-certified
instructor. Tours can be customized for experienced paddlers who want a challenging adventure. Tell your guide
about any medical conditions they should know about.

Will I flip over?

It’s possible, but unlikely, which is why we require you to wear our life jackets. Your guides are trained in rescue
practices that will get you into your boat as soon as possible. You will not get ‘stuck’ in your kayak!

What if I have my own kayak?

You are welcome to bring your own boats on a tour and receive a ten percent discount.

What should I wear?

● Sandals or shoes that can be worn in water (flip-flops are not the best as they can fall off)

● Sunglasses and a wide brim hat or baseball cap for sun protection

● In Summer, shorts and T-shirt. Bring a fleece, wind breaker or rain jacket if it’s chilly. If it’s warm, wear your bathing
suit or drip-dry shorts for a swim!

● In Spring and Fall, cooler weather may mean long pants and a fleece or jacket. These should be exercise-type
clothes, not jeans. AVOID cotton clothing.

What should I bring?

● Water

● Sunscreen

● Bug spray

● “Croakers” for prescription eyeglasses

● Vital medications (such as an epi-pen if you are allergic to bee stings

● Binoculars and a waterproof camera are optional
